Flogging father remanded in police custody

A 48-year-old father who ruthlessly whipped his 20-year-old daughter for damaging a padlock upon arriving home late, was on Friday remanded in police custody by the Assin Fosu District Court.

The accused, Abraham Amoh Blankson, faced charges of assault and causing harm and is scheduled to appear before the court on Thursday, October 24.

This decision came after the prosecutor, Inspector Matilda Osaah Buabeng, requested the court to grant the police sufficient time for further investigations.

Inspector Buabeng informed the court presided over by Mr Abdul Majid Iliasu, that the complainant is Ms Esther Amoh Blankson, a 20-year-old hairdressing apprentice residing in Old-Praso, a suburb of Twifo Praso in the Atti-Morkwa District of the Central Region, with her father.

Stating the facts of the case as read in court on Friday, October 11, Inspector Buabeng said the victim left for work in the morning and returned on Saturday night.

Upon her late arrival, the accused, who had been awaiting her return in vain,
changed the lock to the door.

When the victim asked for the keys, the accused, in a fit of anger, instructed her to go back to where she came from, frustrated, the lady eventually broke the padlock and entered the room.

The prosecutor said, when Blankson discovered the damaged padlock, he threatened his daughter with physical harm, leading her to seek temporary refuge at her stepmother’s house.

Later that day, upon returning home, the victim found that her father had taken GHc360.00 from her handbag and demanded its return, but her father refused to comply, saying she would get her money back when she had replaced the damaged padlock.

Unhappy with her father’s demand, the victim reacted with a scoff and left the presence of her father and his employees, which further provoked him to mercilessly whip her with an electrical cable, causing injuries to her body.
