Ministry of Energy Hosts Public Consultation on Draft Review of Electricity and Water Regulatory Act


The Ministry of Energy, in collaboration with FAME Consulting Services, conducted a public consultation on the draft review of the Sierra Leone Electricity and Water Regulatory Act at the Ministry’s conference room in Freetown.

On 2nd September 2024, the Ministry of Energy held a crucial meeting to discuss the draft review of the Sierra Leone Electricity and Water Regulatory Act. The session, organised by FAME Consulting Services, was presided over by the Chief Director of the Ministry of Energy.

Alfred Paul Juwah, Esq., the consultant responsible for the draft review, presented an overview of the proposed changes to the regulatory framework governing the electricity and water sectors in Sierra Leone. His presentation provided an in-depth look at the key provisions of the draft Act, sparking a series of discussions and feedback from stakeholders.

Representatives of the Ministry of Energy, the World Bank, the Ministry of Finance, the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA), the Electricity Gen
eration and Transmission Company (EGTC), the Standards Bureau, and press members actively participated in the consultation.

During the discussion, Mr. Williams from the Procurement Office raised several concerns regarding the document presented by FAME Consulting Services, mainly focusing on areas related to procurement processes and regulatory oversight.

The Chief Director of the Ministry of Energy also highlighted a few necessary amendments to the draft document, emphasising the need for a robust and effective regulatory framework that aligns with the country’s energy and water sector goals.

Some key recommendations and issues the Chief Director and Mr Williams raised were acknowledged and considered for further revision of the draft Act.
