The Ministry of Technical and Higher Education (MTHE) officially welcomed its new Permanent Secretary, Mohamed S. Kargbo, in a ceremony held at the Ministry’s conference room in New England Ville, Sababu Building. The event marked a significant leadership transition as Kargbo took over from Gilbert Cooper, who was appointed Director General at the Ministry of Defense.
In his handing-over note, Cooper reflected on both the accomplishments and challenges faced during his tenure. He reiterated the Ministry’s unwavering commitment to providing technical and higher education opportunities for all Sierra Leoneans. Cooper also urged Kargbo to build on the progress made by the Ministry’s management and staff, highlighting the need for collaboration and teamwork to enhance efficiency in service delivery. “The Ministry’s core values prioritize the growth of its employees and the advancement of Sierra Leone’s education sector,” Cooper stated.
Accepting his new role, Mohamed S. Kargbo expressed gratitude for the oppor
tunity to lead and pledged to work closely with the team to continue the Ministry’s mission. He emphasised the importance of teamwork and collaboration in achieving success. “With mutual respect as a core value, I aim to foster harmony and create a productive working environment,” Kargbo noted, adding that he looks forward to supporting the Ministry’s objectives through solid leadership and cooperation.
The Minister of Technical and Higher Education, Dr. Ramatulai Wurie, praised Kargbo’s appointment and expressed confidence in his leadership capabilities. She also took the opportunity to thank Gilbert Cooper for his invaluable contributions over the years, noting that his experience and dedication greatly benefitted the Ministry and earned him respect.
Dr. Wurie encouraged the Ministry’s staff to continue working together collaboratively and supportively, stressing that mutual respect and teamwork are desirable and essential for achieving the Ministry’s goals. “We must remain united in our efforts to advanc
e Sierra Leone’s education sector,” she urged, fostering a sense of motivation and commitment among the staff.
The Chief Technical and Higher Education Officer, Dr. Josephus Brimah, shared positive sentiments about Kargbo’s appointment, describing him as a respectful and capable individual based on previous interactions. Dr. Brimah further emphasised the importance of engaging with management and staff to cultivate a strong sense of teamwork within the Ministry.
The meeting also allowed for updates from the Ministry’s various directorates and units, setting the stage for a smooth transition and a renewed focus on the Ministry’s mission to enhance technical and higher education across Sierra Leone.
