Sierra Leone and Guinea Strengthen Diplomatic Ties Through Board Security Collaboration


O.A. U Drive, Tower Hill, Freetown:- Sierra Leone and Guniea have strengthen their diplomatic ties by deepening Boarder Security Collaboration.

The visit, marked by a presentation ceremony, underscored the deep-rooted historical and cultural ties between the two neighboring nations.

Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Director General, Policy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Alan Logan highlighted the enduring relationship between Sierra Leone and Guinea, emphasizing shared experiences dating back to pre-independence era.

The two countries, bound by common borders and cultural affinities, the DDG, Policy said, have fostered robust diplomatic relations and mutual support during challenging times.” Guinea’s steadfast support during Sierra Leone’s civil conflict and its generosity towards Sierra Leonean refugees reflect a profound bond of brotherhood,” Mr. Logan remarked.

ations shared commitment to enhancing regional security and stability.

The DDG, Policy said, the theme “Understanding Border Security and Leveraging Military Cooperation,” is aligned with Sierra Leone’s strategic priorities in international diplomacy.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he stated, remains dedicated to fostering peaceful relations through diplomacy, adding that, through cooperation and dialogue, states can safeguard long-term peace and security.

The Head of the Guinean delegation, Col. Camara explained that the delegation is made up of students from the Infantry and Air force of the Guinea Armed Forces.

Speaking on the purpose of the study tour, Col. Camara said, they are in the country to tap on the expertise and experiences of Sierra Leone in the area of border security and management, border security cooperation and the role of the Foreign Ministry in promoting border security among others.

He stated that, the delegation has paid a visit to the Security and Justice Sectors, immigration, O
NS and the Foreign Ministry.

He concluded by thanking the Ministry for honouring their invitation and for the warm hospitality accorded them.

The Director of Africa, Mr. Steven Lavey in a slide presentation, spoke about the theme of the study tour and other thematic areas such as: introduction to border security and its challenges, border management and protocol of free movements, the need for border security cooperation between the two countries.

The mandate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its role in promoting border security, were also highlighted.

Welcoming the delegation earlier, on behalf of the Minister and Management of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Director of Multilateral Division, Mr. Zainu Deen who moderated the programme, said the meeting is for experience sharing to understand border security and leveraging on military cooperation between the Republic of Sierra Leone and the Republic of Guinea.

He said, as part of the expectations, the participant
s are looking forward to drawing lessons from the Sierra Leone experience in the areas of foreign policy, democratic governance and border security including the milestones achieved so far, key challenges and recommendations and the way forward.

He expressed hope that the fraternal interactions would not only help to strengthen the bilateral cooperation between the two countries but would last in their collective memories forever.
