Three file to contest Akan seat


Three candidates have submitted their Parliamentary Elections nomination forms to contest the Akan Parliamentary Seat in the Oti Region.

The three are: Mr. Yao Gomado, the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for Akan Constituency and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate (PC); Mr. Mustapha Tassah, New Patriotic Party (NPP) PC; and Ms. Mary Yawa Aforla, the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) PC.

Mr Daniel Ofosu, the Returning Officer for Akan Constituency, who disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview on Saturday, September 14, said the Kadjebi District Office of the Electoral Commission (EC) by close of nomination on Friday, September 13 received these three completed forms.

He said while Mr. Gomado and Tassah’s forms were received by the EC on Monday, September 9, Ms. Aforla’s form was completed and received on Wednesday, September 11, 2024.

Mr. Gomado, the 58-year-old Marine Engineer won the Akan Seat for NDC with 19, 317 votes, representing 58.69 per cent during
the December 7, 2020, polls.

Mr Tassah, the 48-year-old Legal Practitioner, and Ms. Aforla, 42, and Teacher by profession are first-timers.

The Akan seat has been considered as a safe seat for NDC since the Party and its well-known members who goes solo has won the seat since 1992 till date.
